The Librarian.

I take pride in having worked at a library for four years. In this piece I portray myself as the steadfast librarian, watcher of the books. She silences rowdy patrons with her stern gaze. Something hides behind her pursed lips, a secret she's dying to tell you, but will forever keep mum.

Quadruple Bypass

My father suffered a heart attack recently and underwent open-heart surgery. He lost his job, developed diabetes, and suffers from a serious depression. It has caused the family a lot of hardship, economically and emotionally. He still struggles, to this day, with the responsibilities of all his losses, as represented by the arms. In bypass surgery, arteries are removed from other parts of the body, such as the arms, to replace the clogged arteries in the heart. He has lost all interest in the things that have made him happy, like playing guitar. In his lowest arms, he holds a photo of his children; his only remaining hope.

Ugly Duckling.

The ugly duckling suffers, struggles and longs for its cure; beauty. Unbeknownst to it is that beauty is the real disease.

Nymph of Leaves.

An experiment in line drawing. Originally meant to be part a set of season-themed images. In it the leaf nymph relaxes, impervious to the notion that when she falls, she will forever be walked upon. She is dignified with a staid and willing acceptance.

I personally relate her to my experiences with dissociation.

artpost #14

I have been making a lot of steps toward going back to art school. I have a good number of strong, older pieces. I'm not sure about new stuff.

I'm trying, at least.

I have talent but I don't believe in it.
And I want to, so badly.

Bowie homage. Halloween costume in 2005. Make-up done with face paint and paint crayons from Party City, mascara, eyeliner, and sprayed on hair dye. Wore it for the Senior Halloween Costume parade and got a lot of good responses. Took about an hour to put on before school that day.

Senior Art class project: image morph. Bowie knife to David Bowie (Aladdin Sane era).

The first: a portrait of Alfonso Mucha done in the style of Alfonso Mucha. End of high school, 2006.

The second: "Aviators." a portrait inspired by my old friend, Kearby. 2006.

The third: an assignment for incoming Montserrat students. Take an art piece and create an "echo" of it. The original piece is an Andy Warhol drawing of a woman's face with a red, flowery cloud above her head. The caption read "Everyone must have a fantasy." The woman's face bore the expression of absolute certainty. My echo reflected my thoughts about myself; uncertain. 2006.

In 2004, I was hired by Morse Institute Library to create signs for the Young Adult room. The signs are still there and are now a permanent part of the library.

Each was created using colored pencil, later adhered to foamcore board.

As years went on, I did other projects for the library. The librarians referred to me as "the resident artist". I made promotional posters, such as a Chronicles of Narnia poster during the movie premiere for a display, using a movie graphic. The following year, I created a poster for a town-wide reading project called "Natick Reads", which asked the town to read a specific book for discussion groups and related programs. The book poster I worked on was for "Hoot" by Carl Hiaasen. This one was original; I used various images of burrowing owls for reference and created a textured branch look for the title.

Still lifes from Drawing 1. 2006, freshman year at Montserrat. Charcoal & pastel on 24 " x 18 " paper.

Same kettle, different class periods.

Half a lemon; a skull, horn, orange and a clock.

This last still life was drawn as a mid-term assignment. A "still life self portrait", which includes a David Bowie album, a fedora, an Indian doll, a stuffed animal, and a rear view mirror. I called it "The Secret Hero".

And this is what I did today. It frustrated me to no end.

I wish I had the patience for art again.

Starting in 2002, my long-time internet friends Sirose, Kearby, and Janine and myself created an alternate universe called Aphotica (originally titled "Darkworld"). As a writing RPG, each player had their own character and role. The writing went on for a few years and took on several players (at one point, we had ten fully active participants). We all became very involved in the stories, the characters, formulating future plots and adventures. Eventually, we grew older, and lost time to write for the game. We all still remember it as what helped us get through high school, though.

I recently made this for Sirose; my character Tic and her character Miraye interact, in one of the final scenes before we stopped writing. Drawn in January of this year. Pigma Micron, ultra fine-tipped pen on paper.

I got photoshop again at the end of January. In an effort to get myself photoshopping again, I colored a panel from the comic.

"half-fate"

A "thought collective" of a period earlier this summer.

"Prom 1984"

A gift to my friend and artist Emmy Cicierega for her birthday. It's based on a photo of Julie, myself and her at an 80's Prom party.

Both created with sharpies and pen.

artpost #1

I moved into Boston with my friend Julie. I made a couple of pieces while here.

The first was made with sharpies and pen. It's unfinished. I refer to it as an "ugly duckling".

The second is a collage I made for Julie, while at my friend Maria's, who provided me with the clippings. Maria has an artblog over here.

I have intense artistic motivation problems.

& I feed the internet with false impressions of myself.

Take that, creative block!

Hi. I made an art blog.
